For a Healthy Greenhouse Supply Good Air Ventilation

By Matthew Martins For optimal functioning of your greenhouse, supply sufficient air ventilation at all times. The air inside a greenhouse is heated by re-radiation of solar energy by objects inside the greenhouse, or, sometimes, by means of artificial heating. It may reach a point where the temperature inside the greenhouse grows uncomfortably high for the plants. If this happens, you need to implement a good greenhouse ventilation system to exchange some of the warm air inside for cooler air from outside. Because warm air rises, it is convenient to allow it to escape through vents at the highest point of the greenhouse. Cool air can gain access through natural means - for instance, leaks where glass overlaps - or through side vents set lower down in the sides of the greenhouse. It's especially important to provide lean-to or circular greenhouses, or greenhouses used to grow alpine plants, with an adequate fresh air supply. A rule of thumb for small greenhouses is that the vents should be equal to 25 - 30 percent of the floor area. It's best to have an automated system to control the opening and closing of vents. This can be achieved by thermostatically controlled electric motors, or, on a smaller scale, by expansion vent units. Roof vents are best positioned alternately on both sides of the roof, with side vents set to match. Don't forget - if side vents are placed at ground level, you need to cover them with wire netting to prevent unwanted guests like mice or cats from gaining access to the greenhouse. To prevent cold or wet spots, circulating fans can be used to mix the air inside the greenhouse. Extractor fans will pull air out of the greenhouse, and you obviously need a means of allowing fresh air in to replace the lost air. It's possible to use fans to pull air into a greenhouse, but, in practice, extractor fans work more reliably. Air vents are the normally preferred means of allowing air in. Extractor fans are controlled by an air thermostat - and they must be large enough to move sufficient quantities of air. A good greenhouse supply retailer should be able to recommend the best type of fan for your requirements. Normal domestic extractor fans are not suitable - those used in greenhouses have larger blades which turn more slowly. Moisture jets or absorbent pads can be used alongside fans to add or remove moisture from the incoming air to help maintain the correct humidity level in the greenhouse atmosphere. With a little planning and forethought it's quite easy to maintain a good greenhouse supply of fresh air to keep your plants happy! Mulch Your Spring Bulbs In The Fall For A Beautiful Spring Display

By Michael J. McGroarty Flower bulbs need a good, long, winters sleep. Like some people we know, if they wake up before they are fully rested, they get kind of cranky, and then they dont bloom well at all. Actually what happens is during a mild winter, the soil stays too warm, and the bulbs begin to come out of dormancy early. They start to grow, and once the tips emerge above the soil line, they are subject to freezing if the temperatures dip back down below freezing. And thats usually what happens. After the bulbs have emerged, they freeze and then dont bloom at all, or if they do its a very sad display. Another reason this happens is because the bulbs are not planted deep enough. They may have been deep enough when you planted them, but as the soil goes through the freezing and thawing process, the bulbs can actually work their way up in the ground. One way to keep your flower bulbs sleeping longer, which will protect them from freezing, is to mulch the bed. In the fall just apply a 3-4 layer of well composted mulch. This layer of mulch will do a couple of things. It will maintain a higher moisture content in the soil, which is good, as long as the soil isnt too soggy. Well composted mulch also adds valuable organic matter to the planting bed. Organic matter makes a great natural fertilizer. A 3-4 layer of mulch also acts as an insulator. It will keep the soil from freezing for a while, which is good because you dont want the bulbs going through a series of short cycles of freezing and thawing. Then when the temperatures drop below freezing and stay there for a while, the soil does eventually freeze. Then the mulch actually works in reverse and keeps the soil from thawing out too early. Keeping it in a frozen state is actually good because the bulbs remain dormant for a longer period of time. When they finally do wake up it is spring time, and hopefully by the time they emerge from the ground the danger of a hard freeze is past and they will not be damaged. If you can keep them from freezing, they will flower beautifully. The extra organic matter will help to nourish the bulbs when they are done blooming, and the cycle starts all over again. We also plant annual flowers in the same beds with our spring bulbs. By the time the danger of frost is past and its time to plant the annuals, the top of the bulbs have died back and are ready to be removed. The mulch that is added in the fall also helps to nourish the annual flowers, as well as improve the soil permanently. Anytime you add well composted organic matter to your planting beds, you are bound to realize multiple benefits. The key words here are "well composted". Fresh material is not good. Buying Chainsaws From Auction Sites

By Jerry Smith One source for affordable chainsaws can be on line auction sites. Often you can save quite a lot of money shopping the auction sites for a chainsaw. First, try to know what you are looking for. Research the brand and what the retail price is. Decide whether you want a gasoline or electric chainsaw and what size chainsaw you want or need. At the same time you need to be flexible. If you are looking for Brand A, but a comparable saw from Brand C is on an auction site for less money, grab it. You can really get bargains at these sites but there are a few things you need to watch. You may find a new in the box chainsaw and the starting bid is low, however it can quickly rise well above the retail price. People get caught up in the bidding and will just keep raising the ante in the quest to win. Even if you win a bid at or close to the retail price, you still have to pay shipping and there is also almost always a no return policy. If however you are not satisfied with your purchase and think you can prove they buyer deceived you, you can file a complaint with the site and they will attempt to resolve the situation. At least one of these sites has sellers that run stores on that site and some of them will allow you to return items that are unsatisfactory. We bought a factory reconditioned saw with full factory warranty at slightly below retail price. Recently we found a similar offer for a gasoline chainsaw on one of these auction sites. Keep your head, compare prices at the auction sites with retail prices and stick to what you budgeted for a chainsaw. Jerry Smith can help you. Why I Love Making Rebatched/Hand Milled Soap

By Jennifer Christine I enjoy making rebatched/hand milled soap. This soap making method uses ready made soap as the base. You usually grate it, melt it, then mix in your additives, pour it into the mold and wait for it to set. Its essential to use a good recipe though, so the amount of additives you use is correct. Otherwise you can end up with a disastrous bar of soap. Wear protective clothing is also important. The last time I made hand milled soap, I was glad I was wearing safety goggles as otherwise I would have gotten grated soap flakes in my eyes!
Wearing safety goggles, protective gloves, clothes and shoes is key to making soap safely. Melted soap is very hot and if you accidentally splashed yourself, you wouldnt want it land on bare skin. Ouch! Its fun to think up what kind of additives you want to use, eg glitter, oatmeal, herbs or flower petals. I love creating my own color and scent combinations, such as peppermint vanilla or vanilla mocha swirl. There are so many different kinds of soap molds out there. Think up one and you can probably buy it! There also soap stamps available, such as a Hand Made stamp to show everyone that you really did make the soap yourself. Rebatched/hand milled soap takes from 24 hours to two weeks to set at room temperature.
Once the soap has set in the molds, its time to unmold it. Just turn the mold upside down on a clean soft surface (so the soap doesnt chip if it comes out with a rush) and the soap should pop out. If youre having trouble getting the soap out of the mold, run some warm water over the base of the mold and try again. Soap making is an addictive hobby. Its so satisfying to look at a gorgeous bar of soap youve made yourself and is enjoyable to use as well. So what are you waiting for? Start making your own soap today! Free Diet Patches

By Alison Cole Studies reveal more than 300,000 Americans die every year because of obesity. Presently, about 60 percent of adults and 13 percent of children are considered to be overweight or obese. This unhealthy trend has made many people concerned and afraid that they may be or become obese. As a result, an increasing number of people are trying quick result weight loss programs that include diet supplements such as diet patches. A diet patch is essentially a weight loss program where the individual is expected to wear a patch, usually on the arm, until the desired weight loss is achieved. It is aimed at reducing weight in a short span of time. Medical reviews affirm that with every diet patch that is peeled off the body, the client will lose excess weight. In general, it is a profitable time for marketers of diet patches who make every effort to attract first time users. Free diet patches are being advertised through magazines, Internet and TV commercials. A number of diet patch companies offer free diet patches for a first time user. This is an effective marketing strategy, since people are more inclined to try a new product, when it does not cost them anything. The mindset of many consumers is that even if the product does not bring about the promised effect, at least they do not have to incur a monetary loss. Most advertisements for diet patches provide free trials for a week or ten days. Some companies offer free diet patches, if a customer buys in large quantities. Critics are apprehensive of the effect of diet patches, claiming that the distribution of free diet patches is a marketing gimmick. Some specialists state that diet patches may not have the same success as traditional weight loss products. It is important for clients to know that most diet patches claims are not clinically proven. It is important to note that a company will offer diet patches for a free trial only. Subsequently, the user will have to buy it, and the prices of some of these products could be prohibitive. There are a number of fraud companies on the Internet that insist that the customer provide credit card details prior to being approved for a free trial. These could be rip off tactics, and it is important to make enquiries and buy diet patches only from reputed dealers. Diet Patches provides detailed information on Diet Patches, Transdermal Diet Patches, Wholesale Diet Patches, Dangers Of Diet Patches and more. You're In Charge. Now What?

By Inez Ng For years now, you have been waiting patiently for that first opportunity to be put in charge of a group and show what you can do. It has finally happened. You are giddy with excitement and your head is full of ideas. You cant wait to implement, create change, and leave your mark. Before you charge up the hill, possibly leaving everybody else behind, theres something that you really need to handle first. Relationships, Relationships, Relationships Business is built on relationships and having a solid trusting relationship with your team is a must. They will put out efforts for you just by virtue of your position. And they will put out super-human efforts for you if they respect you and buy into your vision. The ability to inspire great performance is what sets great leaders apart from the rest. Spend some time to build these relationships and it will create a huge impact on your effectiveness as a leader. Get to Know Them You dont need to be their buddy, and it is helpful to know the members of your team on a human level. If you are wondering how to begin, heres a list of questions to get you started: How long have you been in your position? What are your concerns about your work? What are some of the biggest obstacles you face? How can I help in these areas? How would you like us to work together? Where do you see yourself progressing in this company? How do you feel things are going in this group in general? If you are a brand new manager, and an unknown entity, your team members may be hesitant to bare their souls at this stage. Dont push too hard. Be truly sincere about wanting to know their answers, with the objective of helping them and improving the team. Show a genuine interest in their opinions. Dont train them to tell you what they think you want to hear. Learn what they do for the group and the impact they make. Acknowledge their contribution. Thank them for their honesty. Soon you will have the trust you need to have them openly share whats on their mind. When you perform this initial relationship building discussion well, you will gather very helpful information about the current status of your team, and the challenges and opportunities open to you. Spot trends and patterns while you analyze your data. Review your plan for the team and see what adjustments are needed based on what you have discovered. Let Them Get to Know You Be aware that most people are anxious about getting a new boss. Their old one might be Attila the Hun, but at least they know what to expect. You need to put them at ease and the best way to do that is to share information that they want to know but may not be ready to ask. I suggest you accomplish this through a short staff meeting. Theres safety in numbers, and they will be more willing to ask questions in a crowd as opposed to a one-on-on situation. Prepare for the meeting so it is productive. Even if you only have three items, list an agenda, a starting time, and an ending time. Do your best to stick to your agenda and time schedule. This may be their first glimpse at your work style, so put forth the effort to make a good impression. As a start, cover the following items about yourself: Brief work history they want to know you are qualified and credible. Your work style are you hands-off, or do you love every detail. This helps guide how they will interact with you. If you like to hold monthly status meetings, tell them that. Your vision for the team it may be early in the game, but they want reassurance that their leader knows where they are headed. Your expectations in a group setting, this will be general. If missing deadlines is an offense punishable by death in your book, let them know up front. Do you like people to question decisions? Do you like unsolicited feedback, or shall they wait till you ask? Make sure you allow some time for them to ask questions. Encourage dialogue and notice the dynamics of the group. Spot any trouble areas, and note any strength you want to leverage. I have been plunked smack dab in the middle of about half a dozen different work groups in my career, and this approach has always served me well. Its impossible to lead when others choose not to follow. Then you are dragging them behind you and thats a lot of work. First set the foundation so they are willing and eager followers, and leading becomes a breeze. 2004 Inez O. Ng ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Are you struggling with the responsibility of management? Reasons To Consider An Unlocked Cellular Phone

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Neil_Day]Neil Day Most consumers think they have to dispose of their cell phones if they change service providers. But that isn't always the case. An unlocked cellular phone is probably not something most people have heard of, but in reality a phone that can be unlocked can save a consumer a lot of time and hassle. An unlocked cellular phone is a GMS, or digital, model that enables the transferring of the SIM, or subscriber information module, into it. These phones are not necessarily readily available in the United States, but they can be found through such companies as T-Mobile, Cingular, AT&T and some retailers that sell phones. Anyone with a GMS type phone can have it turned into an unlocked cellular phone, enabling it to pick up new SIM information for service and billing. The unlocking process will either be done from the start, or codes can be obtained that will enable the phone to accept new information and function correctly. The advantages of an unlocked cellular phone can be fantastic for those who are attached to their phone models. They include: Freedom: An unlocked cellular phone gives customers an ability to use the phone they want, rather than a phone a service provider touts. This can save in upfront fees during a purchase of new service. Preference: If a customer has an unlocked cellular phone they really like, a switch in service doesn't mean having to give up that model. This is great for those who are very comfortable with their model phone and its perks. Information saving: Many people nowadays use their cell phones as portable telephone books and with some offering PDA abilities, the information stored on them is vital to carry on with a new contract. When an unlocked cellular phone is used, there's no reason to be concerned about losing the information during a new service contract or having to spend hours transferring the data. Figuring out the ins and outs of an unlocked cellular phone can be a little tricky, but there are even some companies out there that can help talk a customer through the process. Some cell phone makers will even provide the codes necessary to unlock a phone that's presently locked. As long as the phone is owned by the consumer, and not the service provider, the process is legal. Changing cell phones can be a real problem for some people. When a GMS phone is used, this problem can be eliminated. An unlocked cellular phone gives consumers the freedoms to have the phones they want and the service plans they want, as well. Cord Blood Collection

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Wayne_Channon] Wayne Channon Umbilical cord blood is human blood from the placenta and umbilical cord that is rich in stem cells. Cord blood is collected after the umbilical cord has been detached from the newborn, and sometimes used as a source of stem cells for transplantation. Cord blood can be stored by both public and private cord blood banks. Umbilical cord blood is currently used for marrow replacement in a variety of disorders. Two distinct methods of collection exist for banked umbilical cord blood. The first method is to collect the blood after the placenta has been delivered. Because blood in the placenta and umbilical cord clots rapidly, ex utero cord blood collection is performed as soon as possible after delivery of the placenta, typically within 10 minutes.
The second method is to collect cord blood during the third stage of labor after the baby, but before the placenta is delivered. This method has the possible advantage of the placenta being compressed by the uterus, allowing more blood to be collected. However, in utero cord blood collection takes place in an environment that is inherently subject to a greater risk of contaminating the cord blood during collection. The training and reporting relationship for the two forms also vary: the after placental delivery method uses collectors trained and employed by the cord blood bank; the utero collections are performed by the delivery room staff, usually the obstetrician or midwife who is responsible for the delivery of the baby and the placenta. Cord blood collection is a simple, safe and painless procedure done regularly by cord blood banks like Cells4Life. Cord blood banking uses external facilities as a place to store and preserve your babys cord blood for a future use. Cord blood collection does not interfere with delivery. Attracting New Customers To Your New Catering Business

By Lydia Quinn So you have set up your dream catering business? How do you go about getting new customers? Here are a few tips: Website Your catering business should have its own website complete with sample menus, customer testimonials and references, pictures of some of your presentations, pictures of your food and, of course, all of your contact information. You can also advertise your website on the Internet through pay per click ads, search engine optimization for appropriate localized phrases and advertise on local community websites. Wedding Directories Some of the biggest customers for catering companies are wedding receptions. Get your ad or pitch in front of brides, grooms and wedding planners. You can advertise in local wedding newsletters, newspaper sections and magazines. Advertise online by getting listed in every major wedding directory, some may require a fee, but if they have good traffic to their directory, the ad should pay for itself many times over in new customers. Partnering Establish good relationships with wedding planners, florists, party stores etc. Once you have done a good job for one wedding planner, for instance, they will send you more business in the future. You can even give discounts to wedding planners who recommend your services, this further increases the chances of them recommending your catering business in the future. Word Of Mouth Word of mouth is one of the best ways to expand your business. When you have done a stellar job serving one wedding event, the people at the wedding will remember your food and may think of your business for their own weddings, parties and other events. Good PR Also under the category of word of mouth is good PR, or public relations. Send out press releases, try to get a feature article in the local food section, contribute articles to food and catering related magazines and newspapers. Do a great job at every event you cater so people will remember your company. Flyers Distribute flyers in your community and to local businesses. Businesses often have parties for birthdays, company anniversaries, company picnics and holiday parties, and they usually will need a caterer for these events. Yellow Pages Despite the ubiquitousness of the Internet these days, many people still rely on the yellow pages to find businesses in their community. Make sure to place your ad in the caterers section of your local yellow pages, it's well worth the cost. Using these tips, you should be able to attract new customers to your catering business to keep it prospering for many years to come.
