Many of us say "I'm feeling depressed" when we feel sad or miserable. But usually, these feelings pass after a while. But clinical depression is when these feelings are disabling and interfer with your life. Clinical depression can stop people from leading a normal life, it makes everything harder to do and everything may seem less worthwhile. At its most severe depression can be life-threatening, because it can make people suicidal or simply give up the will to live. How do I know if I am depressed?
You may be clinically depressed if you have most of the following symptoms:

depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day, that may be noticed by others.
Loss of interest or pleasure in all, or almost all, activities most of the day, nearly every day
significant weight loss when not dieting or weight gain or decrease or increase in appetite nearly every day.
insomnia or hypersomnia nearly every day
psychomotor agitation or retardation nearly every day
loss of energy nearly every day
feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt nearly every day
diminished ability to think or concentrate, or indecisiveness, nearly every day
recurrent thoughts of death (not just fear of dying), recurrent suicidal ideation without a specific plan, or a suicide attempt or a specific plan for committing suicide
What types of depression are there?

General Depression
People who suffer from general depression still have most of the major signs and symptoms of depression as discussed above. Depression can very from mild to moderate to sever (which is sometimes called major depression).
Seasonal affective disorder
This happens when someone becomes depressed only during the autumn and winter, and it is caused by not getting enough daylight.
Postnatal depression
Also known as "the baby blues". This is a depression that occurs after the birth of their baby and can appear any time between two weeks and two years after the birth.
Manic depression
Also known as Bipolar Disorder. Some people have mood swings, with periods of depression that then change into periods of mania. Mania is a state of high excitement, and peope who are manic may plan or believe lofty schemes and ideas.
What causes depression?
There's no one cause of depression; it varies from person to person and can happen for a combination of factors. Although depression there has been not enough evidence to believe that is is something inherited in the genes, some of us are more prone to depression than others. Some factors that could cause depression include:

the way we're made
our experiences
family background.
traumatic life events
poor coping strategies
after a loss of some sort (loved one, job, house etc)
life changes
inability to adapt
physical illness
poor diet and lifestyle
chemical imbalances
What can you do to help yourself?
Remember that depression can feed on itself. In other words, you get depressed and then you get more depressed about being depressed. An important thing to remember is that there are no instant solutions to problems in life. Solving problems involves time, energy and work. Here are some things you can do to try and break the hold of low moods:

Make an effort to be more aware of how you talk and think to yourself. Listen to yourself in your head.
Every time something negative crops up, quickly scrap that thought and think of something kinder, more encouraging things to say to yourself. For instance, when you have to do something, if you always say to yourself, Youre sure to fail. You always make a mess of everything you do try to delete those thoughts and replace it with something like: Youre going to do the best you possibly can.
Look for things to do that occupy your mind.
Although you may not feel like it, its very therapeutic to take part in physical activities, for 20 minutes a day. This can stimulate chemicals in the brain called endorphins, which can help you to feel better.
Try doing things that will improve the way you feel about yourself. Allow yourself treats. Pay attention to your personal appearance. Set yourself daily or weekly goals that you can achieve. Look after yourself by eating healthily.
Try some alternative therapies such as acupuncture, massage, homeopathy and herbal medicine. Hospital admission - If you are severely depressed and are a significant risk to yourself or others you may need the shelter and security of a ward hospital. It also gives a chance for the health professionals to monitor the effects of different treatments. Hospital can provide a safe, supportive environment if you are in a state of distress. Generally however doctors want to avoid placing people in hospital, but some patients are compulsorily detained if they are a dangerous risk to others or themselves.

For a Healthy Greenhouse Supply Good Air Ventilation

By Matthew Martins For optimal functioning of your greenhouse, supply sufficient air ventilation at all times. The air inside a greenhouse is heated by re-radiation of solar energy by objects inside the greenhouse, or, sometimes, by means of artificial heating. It may reach a point where the temperature inside the greenhouse grows uncomfortably high for the plants. If this happens, you need to implement a good greenhouse ventilation system to exchange some of the warm air inside for cooler air from outside. Because warm air rises, it is convenient to allow it to escape through vents at the highest point of the greenhouse. Cool air can gain access through natural means - for instance, leaks where glass overlaps - or through side vents set lower down in the sides of the greenhouse. It's especially important to provide lean-to or circular greenhouses, or greenhouses used to grow alpine plants, with an adequate fresh air supply. A rule of thumb for small greenhouses is that the vents should be equal to 25 - 30 percent of the floor area. It's best to have an automated system to control the opening and closing of vents. This can be achieved by thermostatically controlled electric motors, or, on a smaller scale, by expansion vent units. Roof vents are best positioned alternately on both sides of the roof, with side vents set to match. Don't forget - if side vents are placed at ground level, you need to cover them with wire netting to prevent unwanted guests like mice or cats from gaining access to the greenhouse. To prevent cold or wet spots, circulating fans can be used to mix the air inside the greenhouse. Extractor fans will pull air out of the greenhouse, and you obviously need a means of allowing fresh air in to replace the lost air. It's possible to use fans to pull air into a greenhouse, but, in practice, extractor fans work more reliably. Air vents are the normally preferred means of allowing air in. Extractor fans are controlled by an air thermostat - and they must be large enough to move sufficient quantities of air. Normal domestic extractor fans are not suitable - those used in greenhouses have larger blades which turn more slowly. Mulch Your Spring Bulbs In The Fall For A Beautiful Spring Display

By Michael J. McGroarty Flower bulbs need a good, long, winters sleep. Like some people we know, if they wake up before they are fully rested, they get kind of cranky, and then they dont bloom well at all. Actually what happens is during a mild winter, the soil stays too warm, and the bulbs begin to come out of dormancy early. They start to grow, and once the tips emerge above the soil line, they are subject to freezing if the temperatures dip back down below freezing. And thats usually what happens. After the bulbs have emerged, they freeze and then dont bloom at all, or if they do its a very sad display. Another reason this happens is because the bulbs are not planted deep enough. They may have been deep enough when you planted them, but as the soil goes through the freezing and thawing process, the bulbs can actually work their way up in the ground. One way to keep your flower bulbs sleeping longer, which will protect them from freezing, is to mulch the bed. In the fall just apply a 3-4 layer of well composted mulch. This layer of mulch will do a couple of things. It will maintain a higher moisture content in the soil, which is good, as long as the soil isnt too soggy. Well composted mulch also adds valuable organic matter to the planting bed. Organic matter makes a great natural fertilizer. A 3-4 layer of mulch also acts as an insulator. It will keep the soil from freezing for a while, which is good because you dont want the bulbs going through a series of short cycles of freezing and thawing. Then when the temperatures drop below freezing and stay there for a while, the soil does eventually freeze. Then the mulch actually works in reverse and keeps the soil from thawing out too early. Keeping it in a frozen state is actually good because the bulbs remain dormant for a longer period of time. When they finally do wake up it is spring time, and hopefully by the time they emerge from the ground the danger of a hard freeze is past and they will not be damaged. If you can keep them from freezing, they will flower beautifully. The extra organic matter will help to nourish the bulbs when they are done blooming, and the cycle starts all over again. We also plant annual flowers in the same beds with our spring bulbs. By the time the danger of frost is past and its time to plant the annuals, the top of the bulbs have died back and are ready to be removed. The mulch that is added in the fall also helps to nourish the annual flowers, as well as improve the soil permanently. Anytime you add well composted organic matter to your planting beds, you are bound to realize multiple benefits. The key words here are "well composted". Fresh material is not good. Why I Love Making Rebatched/Hand Milled Soap

You usually grate it, melt it, then mix in your additives, pour it into the mold and wait for it to set. Its essential to use a good recipe though, so the amount of additives you use is correct. Otherwise you can end up with a disastrous bar of soap. Wear protective clothing is also important. The last time I made hand milled soap, I was glad I was wearing safety goggles as otherwise I would have gotten grated soap flakes in my eyes!
Wearing safety goggles, protective gloves, clothes and shoes is key to making soap safely. Melted soap is very hot and if you accidentally splashed yourself, you wouldnt want it land on bare skin. Ouch! Its fun to think up what kind of additives you want to use, eg glitter, oatmeal, herbs or flower petals. I love creating my own color and scent combinations, such as peppermint vanilla or vanilla mocha swirl. There are so many different kinds of soap molds out there. Think up one and you can probably buy it! There also soap stamps available, such as a Hand Made stamp to show everyone that you really did make the soap yourself. Rebatched/hand milled soap takes from 24 hours to two weeks to set at room temperature.
Once the soap has set in the molds, its time to unmold it. Just turn the mold upside down on a clean soft surface (so the soap doesnt chip if it comes out with a rush) and the soap should pop out. Before you charge up the hill, possibly leaving everybody else behind, theres something that you really need to handle first. Relationships, Relationships, Relationships Business is built on relationships and having a solid trusting relationship with your team is a must. They will put out efforts for you just by virtue of your position. And they will put out super-human efforts for you if they respect you and buy into your vision. The ability to inspire great performance is what sets great leaders apart from the rest. Spend some time to build these relationships and it will create a huge impact on your effectiveness as a leader. Get to Know Them You dont need to be their buddy, and it is helpful to know the members of your team on a human level. If you are wondering how to begin, heres a list of questions to get you started: How long have you been in your position? What are your concerns about your work? What are some of the biggest obstacles you face? How can I help in these areas? How would you like us to work together? Where do you see yourself progressing in this company? By Teow Aun Chew Emperor Huang ruled China around 2600 B.C; which marked the beginning of China as a nation. Many inventions appeared during this period including: money, medicine, clothing, boats, carts, bows and arrows, compass, calendar, astrology, musical scale, palaces, etc and the invention of Chinese characters. Emperor Huang was seeking for the truth from seventy two masters but all of them knew only about the worldly matters. One day the Emperor posted an announcement in the city that a reward of a thousand gold pieces would be given to the person who could introduce the Emperor to the True Master of Tao. There was a living Buddha incarnated as a priest who was only thirteen years old and living at a small temple called Small Grove Temple. His name was Kuang Cheng Tzu and his uncle was a soldier taking care of horses. His uncle saw the announcement and removed it from the post and was then taken to see the Emperor. He reported that his nephew possessed great virtues and wisdom. The Emperor replied: The ages of all my seventy two teachers are between fifty and sixty years old and they knew the dharma of the worldly but not the dharma of the divine. How is it possible that a thirteen year old boy is able to possess such great virtues? But the Emperor accepted his recommendation on the condition that if he was enlightened in three days after being initiated, he would award the soldier with a high position, otherwise he would execute him by chopping off his head. The soldier was very frightened and returned to the temple. He mentioned the matter to his nephew, but Kuang Cheng Tzu regarded the event as a trivial matter. On the next day the Emperor came with five hundred palace guards. With supernatural power knowing that the Emperor was coming, Kuang Cheng Tzu ordered a boy monk to cut down a tree to block the road. When the Emperor came upon the fallen tree, he realized that he had come without sincerity, and decided to return to his palace and come back through a small road with his General Juen Lien. Again, Kuang Cheng Tzu ordered the boy monk to block the road, but this time with reeds tied in seventy two knots. When his impatient General encountered the reeds, he was ready to cut the knots with his sword, but the Emperor said one should be humble when one comes to receive the initiation from a teacher, so he asked the General to untie the knots one by one so that he would kneel down and bow when each knot was being untied. When he arrived at the temple after seventy two bows, he saw the boy monk and asked if this was the Small Grove Temple. The boy monk replied: Small Grove Temple is only known by a few. Tying the reed as a gate is the secret of revelation. The dharma of the Buddha is just and without comparison of high or low. Do not enter if you are arrogant. Obtaining realization from the poem, the Emperor came to the second gate and saw another boy monk using a stick to hit a peach tree. The Emperor asked why he hit the peach tree. The boy monk answered that he is punishing the tree for not bearing fruit. The Emperor asked how long ago the tree was planted. The boy monk answered that the tree was planted three days ago. The Emperor said: "How can the tree bear fruit only after three days?" The boy monk answered with a poem: The peach tree planted three days ago did not bear fruit yet, how can one become enlightened after receiving Tao for three days. With a generous heart and cultivating calmly, the time will arrive when the roots are deep and leaves are dense, then the fruit will appear. The Emperor came to the third gate and saw an old monk sweeping the ground. He asked for the master and was shown to the east room. The Emperor bowed and entered and saw a child sitting calmly inside. The Emperor kneeled down. Kuang Cheng Tzu said: I heard my lord has been seeking Tao through seventy two masters. Which one has the true Tao? The Emperor answered: Each teacher has Tao, but the disciple was unable to learn. I would like to ask the noble teacher how could one transcend ones own life and death? Kuang Cheng Tzu answered: If a person is away from all visible forms, he will not grow. And when wood is away from fire, it will not turn to ashes. Study Tao carefully by following the dharma persistently, then you will succeed. The Emperor was enlightened and thanked the teacher before returning to his palace. Later, the Emperor returned to the temple and cultivated Tao diligently until he reached Nirvana. This is a poem from my Heavenly Teacher, JiGong: From ancient to modern times, ten thousands affairs have been changing and disappearing like burning candles. The fleeting existence turns out to be a journey in the dream. Those who realize this deeply are like spring water in the mountain, and the moon in the sky how leisurely it shines! Blend into the light of the sun and the moon. Unify with the virtue of the heavens and earth. Be together with the Ever-Existing Old Mom (Lao Mu God). Get on the same vehicle and ride together with all Light Beings (Buddhas and Bodhisattvas). Explode the sparkle of life and light up the gloomy world. Keep the sources flowing forever and ever then it is not a waste to encounter the Holy Way (Tao) in this life.
